The most obvious category of emergencies includes oral injuries, such as a cracked, chipped, damaged, or knocked-out tooth. However, there are many other things that count as emergencies, such as a painful, prolonged toothache, a pulled-out or damaged piece of dental work (like a filling), or even a piece of food or debris that is stuck between your teeth and won’t come out.
As a general rule of thumb, you are experiencing a dental emergency if you are in pain and discomfort, and you do not know how to treat your issue on your own. It is important to come to see Dr. Kella for an appointment right away if you think you are having a dental emergency for the best chance of saving your tooth and avoiding more costly treatment down the road.
First, recover the tooth. Grab it by the crown (top) not by the fragile root (bottom). Rinse it off with warm water, if necessary, and gently put it back into the socket or into a baggie of cold milk. Call us and come to our office as soon as you can.
A knocked-out tooth must be re-implanted and splinted within 1-2 hours for it to survive. If you wait longer than this, it will begin to die, and we may not be able to save it. Don’t delay. Come to see Dr. Kella as soon as you can.
Our office is equipped with advanced dental technology to ensure that your diagnosis and treatment are accurate and comfortable.
You shouldn’t have to wait for quality dental care. We offer same-day appointments to accommodate busy schedules and patients experiencing pain.
Our office is conveniently located at 5505 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60640, so you won’t need to worry about a rush to arrive or find parking before your appointment.
